Since our founding in 2020 we have; distributed over 2500 pieces of winter gear to BIPOC folks in Vermont, guided 511 people on snow and mountain bikes, more than 450 attended our events, and collectively we’ve spent 2954 days skiing and riding at no-cost.
At Unlikely Riders, we create joyful and inclusive spaces for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) in mountain sports by breaking down barriers and fostering a supportive community to empower BIPOC individuals to lead and thrive in skiing, snowboarding, backcountry exploration, and mountain biking. We champion the transformative power of nature, ensuring that everyone can experience the joy and freedom of mountain sports.
Our programs reduce or eliminate the barriers to snowsports for BIPOC Vermonters while also creating a community for us to exist fully and authentically on snow. We bring together an often isolated community that shares the collective experience of “being the only one on the mountain” together in spaces where we are centered and celebrated.
