At Unlikely Riders, we create joyful and inclusive spaces for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) in mountain sports by breaking down barriers and fostering a supportive community to empower BIPOC and QTBIPOC (LGBTQ+ who are BIPOC) to lead and thrive in skiing, snowboarding, backcountry exploration, rock climbing, and mountain biking. We champion the transformative power of nature, ensuring that everyone can experience the joy and freedom of mountain sports.
Since our founding in 2020 we have; distributed over 3375 pieces of winter gear to BIPOC folks, guided 820 people on snow, rock, and mountain bikes, more than 2074 attended our events, and collectively we’ve spent 4491 days in the outdoors.
Our programs reduce or eliminate the barriers to mountain sports for BIPOC and QTBIPOC while also creating a community for us to exist fully and authentically in the mountains. We bring together a community that shares the collective experience of “being the only one on the mountain” together in spaces where we are centered and celebrated.
